After a frantic weekend…. We have Zee’s niece here from Turkey via Germany, so we’re been playing tour guide, which has been a lot of fun. So far we’ve done Victoria Market, a quick river walk, and walks around Fitzroy and Footscray. Loads of plans for her remaining time here, and in Sydney from Wednesday. I actually love playing tour guide, although I suspect I have only a subset of the necessary skills. I do details, but only to a point, which can be dangerous. Also my own reflex is to stuff everything possible everything into a visit, which may or may not work for everyone (especially a laid back 21 year old).

I’ve just dropped Zoe off for a pottery course, and have settled into a nearly cafe. We had twenty minutes here first, during which I explained my current place in life. I think it’s helpful to regularly lay out where you are at in life, in order to examine (possibly subliminally) the reasoning and sense of it all. Happily it felt ok, but I do feel the need to move things along. I recognise that the first few months were laying groundwork (getting the house together and working out coexistence), but it is time to move on. Fun as it has been to have Zoe here, I am looking forward to clearing the schedules to get on with all the plans. To be honest, I suspect there’s an element of quiet relief (with the current Zoe diversions) that I don’t have to knuckle down and work! Hey at least I’m getting into the discipline of regular daily writing, however banal.
